At 8, Prema Dhanraj was burned over about half her body when a kerosene stove blasted at home. She says her mother prayed that if she lived, she would become a doctor in the same hospital for burn survivors. She became a plastic surgeon at CMC Vellore (1980-2010, head of plastic surgery from 1998) and in 1999 founded Agni Raksha, which has given free surgeries to over 25,000 burn survivors (Padma citation, Republic). She received the Padma Shri on 22 April 2024 (ANI). So, should burn first aid be taught in every school?
