Mumbai housing affordability

Mumbai homes need about 69% of household income for EMIs. What should be done about housing affordability?

Knight Frank's H1 2026 affordability index puts the Mumbai Metropolitan Region as India's least affordable market, with EMIs taking 69% of income against a 50% benchmark. A separate Knight Frank report on 25 September 2026 said Mumbai prime prices rose 6.2% year on year in Q2 2026.
