On 2 September 1994, Flt Lt Harita Kaur Deol, 22, from Chandigarh, flew an Avro HS-748 alone and became the first woman in the Indian Air Force to fly solo. She was one of the first seven women officers the Air Force selected, in 1992, and trained to fly transport aircraft at Dundigal and Yelahanka (Honourpoint, Wikipedia). She was a soldier's daughter; her father, Col Ranbir Singh Deol, served in the Army (SheThePeople). On 24 December 1996 she lost her life in service, aged 25. Today women fly fighter jets for India, on a path she helped open. So, how should India remember her?
