Inderjit Singh Sidhu's cleanliness drive
Would you clean the street outside your home?
📍 Chandigarh, Chandigarh, India
Inderjit Singh Sidhu, 88, a retired Punjab Police DIG (retired 1996), walks the streets of Chandigarh's Sector 49 every morning from about 6 am, picking up litter into a bag or a borrowed cycle cart (The Tribune, The Indian Express). He says he complained to civic authorities, no action was taken, so he decided to do it himself. Industrialist Anand Mahindra praised him: "Purpose doesn't retire." He received the Padma Shri for social work at Rashtrapati Bhavan in 2026 (DD News). So, would you clean the street outside your home?
