R. Prasanna, known as Guitar Prasanna, plays Carnatic ragas on an electric guitar. He finished a naval architecture degree at IIT Madras in 1992, then studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston, graduating magna cum laude. He met A.R. Rahman in 1991, before Roja, and worked on Rahman's scores including Lagaan, Swades and Pukar. He also composed the music for Smile Pinki, which won the 2009 Oscar for documentary short.
