Ngangom Bala Devi, from Irengbam village in Manipur, became the first Indian woman to score 50 international goals, against Pakistan in Kathmandu on 17 Oct 2024 (AIFF). She dedicated it to her late father. In January 2020 Scottish club Rangers signed her, the first Indian woman on a pro contract with a European club (AIFF, STV), and on 6 Dec 2020 she scored the first goal by an Indian woman in European club football (Scroll, Sky Sports). A knee injury ended her time in Glasgow; after surgery she fought back into the India team. Her 51 Indian Women's League goals are the most by any Indian (AIFF, 27 Apr 2026). AIFF nominated her for the Arjuna Award in 2020 and 2021; she has not received it. So why don't we know her?
