📍 Akole, Maharashtra, India
Rahibai Soma Popere, a tribal farmer from Kombhalne in Akole (Ahmednagar, Maharashtra) who never went to school, is known as the Seed Mother. She started a seed bank of native seeds; farmers return twice the seed they borrow, and she has shared 122 varieties of 32 crops (The Better India, 2017). She says her father told her old seeds are gold. She was on the BBC 100 Women list in 2018 and received the Padma Shri (2020 awards) from President Ram Nath Kovind. So, would you pay more for desi-seed food?
