US tariff refunds

US tariff refunds of about $122 billion are going to importers, not shoppers. Should consumers get a share?

📍 United States

After the US Supreme Court ruled on 20 February 2026 that IEEPA does not authorise tariffs, about $122 billion had been refunded to importers by 11 September, per reporting on 24 September. On 21 September six senators asked the US Trade Representative about consumer pass-through; tariffs under other authorities remain.
