Petrol in Delhi costs about ₹102 a litre (21 Oct 2026, Upstox). When crude jumped because of the West Asia conflict, the Centre cut excise duty by ₹10 a litre in late March 2026. Then on 15 May 2026 petrol and diesel were raised by ₹3.04 a litre to ease losses at state oil companies (ThePrint). On Dhishuum's own estimate, an average Indian works about 33 hours to pay for one 40-litre tank of petrol, against about 1 hour in the US (2026 prices; income is the latest World Bank figure, 2024). People argue about the fix: cut excise duty and state VAT, bring petrol under GST, pass on cheaper crude when it falls, scrap E20 ethanol blending, or accept the price as fair. Where do you stand?
