UK under-16 ban plan

Should social media be banned for under-16s, as the UK plans from spring 2027?

📍 United Kingdom

In June 2026 the UK government announced a ban on social media for under-16s from spring 2027, covering platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, Facebook, X and YouTube, but not messaging apps like WhatsApp. It also plans limits on livestreaming, infinite scrolling and AI chatbots, enforced by Ofcom.
