Mumbai garbage responsibility

Who is mainly responsible for Mumbai's garbage problem, and what should BMC do first?

📍 Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

On 11 September 2026 the Bombay High Court criticised the BMC over garbage on city streets and warned of action against responsible officials. Earlier, on 1 September, the court urged residents to help, calling hygiene a collective duty, and in July it directed stricter enforcement of solid waste rules.
