China's births are at record lows. Which family policies would most help raise the birth rate?

Euronews reported in January 2026 that China's birth rate fell to its lowest level since 1949 as the population shrank for a fourth straight year. China also imposed a tax on contraceptives in January 2026, which drew a muted public response.
