The UK government confirmed that new Graduate Route applications from bachelor's and master's graduates will get 18 months instead of two years from 1 January 2027; PhD graduates keep three years. Ministers say it should push graduates into graduate-level jobs. A government impact estimate cited about 12,000 fewer applications a year, and a proposed levy on international student fees was also floated in 2025.
