On 15 and 16 October 2026, many big mutual fund companies stopped taking new money in their gold fund-of-funds. One report lists 17 of them, including HDFC, ICICI Prudential, SBI, Tata and DSP. Most have stopped new SIPs and lump-sum buying. The details are a little different for each company. Old SIPs keep running, and you can still sell what you hold. Gold ETFs (you need a demat account) are still open. No official reason was given. Reports guess it is the rush for gold before the festivals, and the weak rupee. This is not a government ban on gold. Here is a question for you: would you buy gold ETFs listed in the US, like GLD, in dollars, through a US-stocks app? Investing abroad from India has its own rules, limits and costs, so check them first. You are the investor. What do you think about this decision? Pick all the answers that match you.
